Solvang is the world famous American “Little Denmark”! It was found in 1911 by a group of Danish immigrants looking for a suitable place to build a school for their children. The streets still have prevalent names, handed down from early settler. The town till this day still hosts Danish festivals. The town’s buildings are half-timbered with decorative windmills. Danish sausages and pastries are ever popular!! Their delightful treat is aebleskive!!!
The town is also very dog friendly!! By far the friendliest dog town in my traveling experience!!
At Solvang, the best bakery, is Mortensen’s Danish Bakery! Their cheese Danish pastry followed by their raspberry pastry are to die for (My mouth is watering reminiscing from it)!
The Mortensen’s Bakery is family owned and operated with traditional recipes. All their pastries are buttery-rich and flaky! So0 go0d! Perfect with a black cup of coffee! I personally like my desert before my meal. =)
Solvang Brewing Company is next! It is a fun mix of Danish traditions with an on-site craft brewery. Go there for a casual lunch or dinner along with a full bar and entertainment! If you are a flexi-tarian, the must try plater is the sausage sample! If you are a vegetarian, the beet salad is the perfect combination of sweet and savory! The Solvang Brewing Company is family owned and operated.
If you want to go “glam-ping”, best place to do so is at the Flying Flags RV Resort! It provides luxury trailers and cottage, as well as vintage RV sites. It is only a 10 minute drive to Solvang. The resort has a lot of family friendly activities and amenities!
While you’re there, check out the McClain Cellars. It’s only a mile from the Flying Flags Resort. A nice 15 minute walk back to your campsite!
It is very family and dog friendly! There are large couches, fire pits, live music, and award-winning wines!
