PLUR? What does it mean?

Updated: May 4, 2023

The rave community is a vibrant and diverse group of individuals who come together to celebrate music, dance, and self-expression. One of the core values that many rave enthusiasts hold dear is the concept of "plur life." But what exactly does this mean?

Plur (short for "peace, love, unity, and respect/responsibility") is a philosophy that originated within the rave community, created by Frankie Bones, and has since spread to other subcultures. It emphasizes the importance of treating others with kindness and compassion, fostering a sense of community and belonging, and promoting inclusivity and diversity.

PLUR was originally “PLUM” (The Peace Love Unity Movement), but after a major fight at a rave in 1993, the “M” was taken out and the “R” was added for “Respect and Responsibility”, since the movement was already established.

For many in the rave community, plur life is more than just a philosophy - it's a way of life. It's about living in the moment, embracing new experiences and perspectives, and creating a positive, uplifting environment for all. It's about leaving behind judgment and negative thoughts and instead focusing on the good in people and the world around us.

One of the most important aspects of plur life is the emphasis on unity and respect. Rave culture is often associated with a sense of freedom and individuality, but it's important to remember that we're all in this together. We need to respect and support one another in order to create a genuinely inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.

Another key aspect of plur life is the emphasis on peace and love. This doesn't just mean avoiding conflict and violence, but also actively working to promote positivity and compassion. Whether through acts of kindness, volunteering, or simply spreading love and good vibes, we can all play a part in creating a more peaceful and loving world.

In the rave community, plur life is often embodied through music and dance. The energy of the crowd, the uplifting beats and lyrics, and the sense of connection and community all contribute to a feeling of peace, love, unity, and respect. It's a place where people can let go of their worries and inhibitions and fully embrace the moment, connecting with others and feeling truly alive.

Overall, plur life is about creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. It fosters a sense of community and belonging, promotes peace and love, and encourages respect and understanding. It's a philosophy that can be applied to all aspects of life, not just the rave community, and one that can help us all live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
