Maui, also known as the "Valley Isle," is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hawaii. Known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and breathtaking sunsets, Maui is a destination that should be on every traveler's bucket list. Here are just a few of the things you can experience on a visit to Maui.

Big Beach, Maui, Hawaii

The Beaches: One of the main draws of Maui is its beautiful beaches. Whether you're looking for a secluded spot to relax or a place to surf, Maui has something for everyone. Some of the most popular beaches include Kaanapali Beach, Wailea Beach, and Makena Beach. Each of these beaches has its own unique charm and is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or just lounging in the sun.

The Road to Hana: The Road to Hana is a scenic drive that takes you through the heart of Maui's lush rainforest. Along the way, you'll see cascading waterfalls, lush vegetation, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. This road trip is not only beautiful but also educational, as it offers a chance to learn about the island's history and culture.

The Haleakala National Park: The Haleakala National Park is home to the world's largest dormant volcano and offers some of the most breathtaking views on the island. This park has a variety of hiking trails that take you through the crater, where you can see the stunning landscape of the volcano. The park also offers visitors the chance to watch the sunrise or sunset from the summit, which is an experience you'll never forget.

Whale watching: Maui is one of the best places to see humpback whales, which migrate to the island annually between December and May. There are several tour operators that offer whale-watching trips, and you can see these magnificent creatures from the shore or from a boat.

Recommendations when traveling to Maui:

-Bug spray, especially if you're hiking (you can purchase it at ABC stores or any convenience store)

-Sunscreen (you can purchase at ABC stores or any convenience store)

-Download Gypsy Guide: Road to Hana- Maui App on the Apple app store for $9.99 (well worth it and cheaper than other travel apps for the Road to Hana) The app will give you a detailed tour of Hana and it does not require phone service. Just be sure to download it before hitting the road Hana because you will have limited or no service.

-Take cash when on the Road to Hana. At least $40 in cash for food. There are so many good local food and fruit stands on the road. Highly recommend trying the Huli-Huli chicken and traditional banana bread! :)

-If you enjoy sushi as much as I do, I highly recommend checking out Miso Phat Sushi!! It is the most experiential sushi my taste buds had ever had! I was completely mind blown! Their Vegetarian sushi will be a new taste experience for your taste buds. I challenge you to try the Ume & Shiso (Plum, Perilla Roll) Hosomaki. Check out their website to take a look at their delicious menu.

-If you're on a budget when traveling to Maui, I highly recommend booking a camping site at least 6 month-1 year ahead of time. It is about $30 a night. We reserved our campsite at Camp Olowalu for 3 nights. (We booked a month before. I don't recommend booking at the last min). I highly recommend taking your own tent and sleeping bags. It will be cheaper than renting a tent per night. Most airlines (like Hawaiian Airlines) will only charge you $30 per checked-in bag (unless you book Spirit or Frontier).

-Book your reservation for Black Sand Beach Wai'anapanapa State Park ahead of time. It is $5 per person for non-Hawaiian residents and $10 per non-commercial vehicle for non-Hawaiian residents. Children under 3 years old are free. The best time to enter and explore the park is right at 7 am when it opens. You'll have the beach and park all to yourself. You'll have gorgeous iconic pictures without people in the background.

-Haleakala National Park: Anyone planning to view the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park must make sunrise viewing reservations for $1.00 in advance at https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/253731. Sunset is free. If you're a Veteran or on Active Duty, all National and State Parks entrances are free. For everyone else, it is a $30 vehicle entrance fee good for 3 days. *Check with your rental company if you can take your vehicle through the road to the park. If your car gets stuck on the road, it will cost you thousands to get it towed back to civilization. The road is not paved.

-If you're trying to go to Red Sand Beach, don't hike there. Your chances of getting injured or killed at high. There are several deaths a year of people trying to hike to the beach. The path is extremely narrow with a cliff falling next to you as you creep through. It rains a lot in Maui. The soil may be muddy and soft. Locals no longer go there to fish because it's extremely dangerous getting there. A local recommends kayaking to the beach. It's your safest bet.

Good luck! Safe travels! <3
